Description
The GE IC200MDL940F is a 16-point relay output module in the VersaMax I/O platform. It provides individually isolated Form A (Normally Open) relay contacts for switching AC and DC field loads. Each output supports voltage-dependent load ratings up to 2.0 A, making the module suitable for PLC control of external relays, contactors, solenoid valves, and other discrete electrical devices.
Relay Output Configuration
The IC200MDL940F provides 16 independent relay output points. Each point uses a Form A contact, which remains open when the relay is de-energized and closes when the corresponding output is activated.
Individual channel isolation allows output circuits to operate with separate field voltage sources. This is useful when a control system needs to switch different AC or DC circuits through one I/O module without sharing a common output reference.
The relay uses a fixed-coil, moving-armature mechanism with silver-alloy contacts.
Output Voltage and Load Capacity
The module supports both AC and DC field circuits. Its maximum permissible current depends on the applied voltage and load type:
- AC loads: 2.0 A per point at 5-265 VAC.
- Low-voltage DC loads: 2.0 A per point at 5-30 VDC.
- Higher-voltage DC loads: 0.2 A per point at 31-125 VDC.
- Minimum load current: 10 mA per point.
The 2.0 A rating does not apply across the entire DC voltage range. In particular, applications operating above 30 VDC must observe the lower 0.2 A contact-current limit. The specified maximum resistive-load ratings should not be treated as equivalent inductive-load ratings.
Switching Characteristics and Protection
Both ON and OFF response times are specified at 10 ms maximum. The maximum switching frequency is 20 cycles per minute when operating inductive loads.
The module does not include internal output fuses or snubber circuits. External circuit protection and suitable suppression for inductive loads should therefore be considered when designing the field circuits.
Individual point-status LEDs indicate the output state. The OK LED indicates the presence of backplane power.

Installation and Field Wiring
The IC200MDL940F is a VersaMax I/O module and requires an appropriate I/O carrier for field wiring termination. The carrier arrangement and terminal connections should be checked against the installed VersaMax hardware configuration.
When connecting field loads, verify the operating voltage and current of each circuit against the voltage-dependent contact ratings. Inductive loads require particular attention because the module does not provide built-in snubber protection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the IC200MDL940F a transistor output or relay output module?
A: It is a mechanical relay output module with 16 individually isolated Form A (Normally Open) contacts. It is not a solid-state transistor output module.
Q: Can the IC200MDL940F switch both AC and DC loads?
A: Yes. It supports 5-265 VAC and 5-125 VDC operating ranges. However, the maximum DC load current decreases to 0.2 A per point when the applied voltage is between 31 and 125 VDC.
Q: Does the IC200MDL940F include internal fuses or surge suppression?
A: No. The module has no internal fuses or snubber circuits. External protection and appropriate suppression components should be evaluated according to the connected load and field circuit requirements.
